ABOUT

Los Angeles Climate Week is a year-round movement connecting the climate work already happening across Los Angeles County. Every April, it comes together in one shared week. In 2027, that’s April 2–12.

Los Angeles County is full of people building a thriving future. We put that work in one place, where you can see it, join it, and believe it.

Our vision is a Los Angeles where building a thriving future is just what people do, and nobody does it alone.

Our Story

LA Climate Week grew out of a recognition. Los Angeles is one of the most climate-impacted and culturally influential places in the world, and the climate work already happening here deserved to be seen and connected. Cities around the world were creating their own climate weeks. The 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games were approaching. A group of colleagues saw a window and took it.

The first LA Climate Week was hosted in 2024. It was designed to connect and amplify work already underway, bringing local organizations, educators, creatives, faith leaders, businesses and neighbors into a shared week of visibility and exchange.

It has grown every season since. Last season, 283 organizations produced 389 events in 115 zip codes. The first season reached 51.

The goal from the start: help Angelenos see the full picture of climate solutions already in motion, and discover where they fit.

WHY LA

Where culture, climate reality, and imagination converge.

Scale

Los Angeles County holds about ten million people across 88 cities. That’s more people than 40 US states. It is the most populous county in the country, with a trillion-dollar economy.

BIODIVERSITY

A global biodiversity hotspot, with more than 4,000 species of plants and animals and more endangered species than any county outside Hawaii. It is the most urbanized place on earth to carry that designation. Mountains, coast, desert and river sit inside one county line. The wild and the built have always argued here, and sometimes they get it right.

EXPOSURE

Heat, fire, drought, air quality and sea level are already here, and they land unevenly. The people carrying the most exposure are carrying the most knowledge about it.

THE WORLD STAGE

The 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games put this county in front of several billion people, and the buildout is happening now. What we build for ourselves before then is what they will see.

CULTURE

Los Angeles exports how things look and sound. A climate future designed here travels.

Our Values & Approach

LA Climate Week takes a campaign-style approach focused on visibility, participation, and shared learning.

EQUITY

The people most affected by climate impacts shape the decisions, set the priorities, and lead the room.

ABUNDANCE

We start from what's working and build on it. There is real strength across this county, and our job is to find it, connect it, and make it go further.

STEWARDSHIP

The work belongs to the people who do it. We carry it carefully and hand it back with their name on it.

JOY

A future worth wanting is the point. We invite people into something they'd choose.

HONESTY

We say what we know, what we don't, and whose work it was.

CREATIVITY

Culture, craft, and imagination are how this work reaches people. They are why LA Climate Week looks and sounds like nothing else in the sector.

Our role is to help climate action feel less distant and more connected—to people, place, and possibility.

How We’re Leading

People often ask who runs LA Climate Week. The answer is a lot of people, each in a different way.

Planning teams of volunteer leads each take on a piece of the season, like marketing, and see it through. A steering committee and seven thematic councils made up of organizations from diverse industries and locations across the county offer counsel, lend their names, and bring together organizations working on the same subjects, from food systems to land and water. They tell us what the season should take on and who we should be talking to. Environmental justice, community engagement and policy come up in every one of them.

Collidescope Foundation, the nonprofit that serves as the nonprofit home for LA Climate Week, handles what happens behind the scenes: everything from fundraising and sponsorship to governance, to the calendar and website, and and all paperwork no one wants to have to deal with. That leaves everyone else free to focus on the work.

What happens inside an event is up to the people hosting it. LA Climate Week’s part is making sure the work gets seen, across the whole county.

Become part of LA Climate Week
