Athens Services is proud to introduce its state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in the City of Irwindale. Designed for maximum efficiency and flexibility, this facility will process a variety of material streams from surrounding communities, with an impressive capacity of 70 tons per hour. Located in Los Angeles County’s San Gabriel Valley, the 155,500-square-foot facility is projected to divert nearly 200,000 tons of material from landfills annually. This flagship MRF represents a major milestone for Athens Services, reinforcing its commitment to serving millions of residents and businesses across the Greater Los Angeles area. Beyond its environmental impact, the Irwindale MRF is an investment in the community. Construction began in September 2024 and the facility will create more than 150 jobs. It will feature a Recycling Science and Technology Center, educating local youth on recycling and sustainability. Additionally, the MRF will support local cities in achieving their environmental goals and advancing toward a zero-waste future. The facility is designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating solar panels and LEED certification to minimize its environmental footprint.
