Join us for a screening of “Buried Consequences” – a 13-minute documentary about the community impacts of Chiquita Canyon Landfill, one of the longest ongoing environmental disasters in the country. The documentary screening will be followed by a Q&A with community members.

Jennifer is a proud mother of three, a resident of Val Verde, and the President of the Val Verde Civic Association. An underground fire at the Chiquita Canyon Landfill has been devastating her community, with residents experiencing many health symptoms, including respiratory issues and cancer. Jennifer and her neighbors have mobilized to demand action through outreach to policymakers, media campaigns, and legal action. In 2025, her advocacy helped push California to adopt the strongest landfill emissions standards in the country after she and fellow community members voiced their concerns to update CARB’s Landfill Methane Regulations. Jennifer continues to lead in advocacy for environmental justice and communities impacted by the mismanagement of landfills. She recently helped launch Grassroots Organizers for Accountable Landfills, a network of frontline advocates and community leaders directly impacted by landfills around the country. Together, they are pushing for responsible waste management and lasting change centered on honest information, clean air and water, and an equitable future.
