Why: The Eaton Fire changed this canyon — and the community surrounding it — forever. But Eaton Canyon is resilient. Native plants are returning, wildlife is coming back, and the land is showing signs of remarkable recovery. Now, the work is making sure that recovery holds: invasive plants threaten to outcompete the natives reclaiming the canyon.
Who: This event is presented by LA County Department of Parks & Recreation, in partnership with the California Governor’s Office of Service, CalVolunteers, and California Climate Action Corps and is the first official event of LA Climate Week — which is starting here, in THIS community, with THIS work, because climate action means nothing if it doesn’t show up where it’s needed most.
What to Expect:
- Volunteers will help to secure the canyon’s future for the Altadena community that depends on it by removing invasives and restoring the land.
- Tools/gloves will be provided.
- Lunch will be served for all participants.
- The work takes place on flat, rocky terrain, so wear appropriate closed-toe shoes. It is predicted to be a warm day, so please bring your water bottles to stay hydrated; sunscreen is also advised.
- The site and restrooms are fully accessible.
What’s Required:
- Volunteers must be at least 14 years old.
- Please park at the address provided. Shuttles will be provided (until 8.20 am) to the project site.
- Important Notice: Eaton Canyon remains closed to the general public during the ongoing restoration. Access on April 8 is limited to approved, registered volunteers ONLY. Please do not visit the site without prior registration and confirmation.
