Join us on Thursday, April 9th, to celebrate the recent replanting of SMC’s campus microforest with an exclusive screening of Making a Mini-Forest, an inspiring feature-length documentary on the global grassroots movement and a powerful antidote to climate anxiety.
Learn how communities around the world are adapting the Miyawaki Method, a dense, biodiverse planting approach that uses native plants to create “mini-forests,” small afforestation projects with a big impact.
Narrated by Hannah Lewis, author of Mini-Forest Revolution, the film zigzags across Europe, highlighting ten organizations working in four languages to re-green their communities and fight climate change.
Prior to the screening, Eco Action Club and SAMOFund Climate Action Fellows will host an outdoor gathering to connect, learn, and celebrate. Pre-show activities will include a tabling station with information about the campus microforest project and opportunities to get involved with the nearby Olympic Median Microforest.
After the film, ecologist Dan Cooper from the Santa Monica Mountains Resource Conservation will help to further ground this international story in our local landscape. He will then be joined by the filmmaker herself, Angelina Lee, for a Q&A.
Whether you’re interested in urban greening, biodiversity, or how to channel climate concern into meaningful action, this event offers a hopeful and tangible vision of restoration for all, from Europe to Los Angeles.
This event is free and open to students, community members, organizers, and anyone interested in strengthening climate resilience where they live.
