The 2028 Olympics are coming to Los Angeles — and the food served at the world’s biggest sporting event may be one of the greatest climate opportunities our region has ever had.
With billions of eyes on LA28, the choices made about what athletes, staff, and spectators eat will send a signal to the world about what a sustainable city looks like. Culver City, an Olympic host city and endorser of the Plant Based Treaty, has already staked out a bold position — and this panel explores how that commitment can set a precedent not just for Culver City, but for the entire LA region.
Freddy Puza (he/him), Mayor of Culver City, joins Stefanie Lynch (she/her), Corporate Engagement Director at Greener by Default and Lead Organizer for Sustainable Food Practices Coalition Group at LA28, to make the case for plant-forward food systems as a centerpiece of LA28’s sustainability story. Lynch will bring her expertise on plant-based defaults — evidence-based behavioral design strategies that make the sustainable choice the easy choice — and what it looks like when institutions deploy them at scale.
This conversation is guided by Allison Begalman, Co-Founder of the Hollywood Climate Summit, whose work sits at the intersection of culture, storytelling, and climate action. Begalman brings a distinctive lens to the discussion: how does a global moment like the Olympics become a catalyst for lasting food system change, and who needs to be in the room to make it happen?
