Community Engagement Lead

Location: Remote

LA Climate Week’s community includes event organizers, volunteers, committee members, advisors, creators, and partners. As Community Engagement Lead, you’ll help keep those relationships active through regular communication, volunteer support, accurate records, and opportunities for people to connect. It’s about 6–8 hours a week for approximately six months, mostly remote.

About the Role

You’ll work alongside the Community Engagement Officer, who sets the broader engagement strategy and priorities. Your part is bringing that strategy to life day-to-day—helping people stay connected, supporting volunteers, keeping engagement information organized, and noticing when someone may need additional follow-up.

Ways you might contribute

You and the Community Engagement Officer will decide together where your time is most useful.

  • Community communication. Help with routine updates, announcements, check-ins, and other touchpoints that keep different parts of the LACW community informed and engaged.
  • Volunteer support. Help welcome and onboard volunteers, answer routine questions, and make sure people have the information and connections they need.
  • Community records. Keep contact information and engagement history organized and current in NeonCRM so the team has a reliable picture of its community.
  • Community building. Help organize surveys, check-in calls, informal meetups, and other small opportunities for people to connect.
  • Follow-up. Notice when someone has become less engaged or when a community need isn’t being met, and help make sure appropriate follow-up happens.
  • Team coordination. Work with Communications, Data & Operations, and other teams when community outreach or information overlaps.

You might enjoy this if

You like helping people feel welcomed, informed, and connected. You’re warm and reliable, good at keeping track of details, and the kind of person who remembers to follow up. Experience with community organizing, volunteer coordination, relationship management, CRM tools, or climate work is welcome but not required.

What you can expect from us

  • Clear direction. The Community Engagement Officer will provide the engagement framework, priorities, and context you need to do the work.
  • Hands-on experience. You’ll learn how a growing nonprofit manages community relationships, volunteer engagement, onboarding, and year-round communication.
  • Tools and systems. We’ll help you learn NeonCRM and the other tools we use to organize community engagement.
  • Experience you can use. You can document appropriate systems and materials you help create for your portfolio, and CF leadership can provide a professional reference upon completion.
  • Accommodations. If a change in scheduling, communication format, or another aspect of the role would help you participate, tell us and we’ll work with you.

Los Angeles County is home to many communities, and our work is stronger when the people helping build those relationships reflect that range. If you’re a person of color, disabled, LGBTQ+, or part of another community underrepresented in climate and nonprofit work, we’d especially like to hear from you.

Time and terms

  • Time. About 6–8 hours a week for approximately six months, with flexible scheduling.
  • Location. Most work is remote and async, with a weekly 45–60 minute check-in with the Community Engagement Officer.
  • LA Climate Week. During April 2–12, 2027, additional availability will be helpful for community support. We’ll plan for that period together in advance.

This is an unpaid volunteer role reporting to the Community Engagement Officer. You give your time freely, with no expectation of pay now or in the future. It is not employment and not a pathway to a paid position.
