Marketing Lead

Location: Remote

LA Climate Week generates stories and content across eight themes and a growing network of contributors. As Marketing Lead, you’ll keep that work moving from idea to publication—coordinating people, projects, deadlines, and the editorial calendar. It’s about 10 hours a week for approximately six months, mostly remote.

About the Role

You’ll work alongside the Brand Development & Marketing Officer and Internal Communications & Public Relations Officer, who set the broader brand, communications, and editorial strategy. Your part is managing the day-to-day editorial process—keeping contributors connected, deadlines visible, content moving through review, and great ideas from getting lost along the way.

Ways you might contribute

Your focus will shift with current priorities, and you’ll work with the Officers to decide where your time is most useful.

  • Editorial calendar. Keep track of what’s planned, due, in review, approved, and published, and follow up when something needs a nudge.
  • Contributors. Coordinate with Theme Leads, writers, interns, and creative contributors so people understand what’s needed, when it’s due, and what comes next.
  • Committee. Help run Marketing & Editorial Committee meetings, including agendas, updates, action items, and follow-up.
  • Content. Help turn rough updates into clear, publishable content and review marketing materials for clarity and consistency with LACW’s brand guidelines.
  • Production. Help coordinate photographers, videographers, designers, and other creative contributors when a project needs additional support.
  • Coordination & performance. Keep editorial and marketing work aligned with social media, communications, and PR, and track basic engagement to see what content is connecting with audiences.

You might enjoy this if

You like turning lots of moving pieces into an organized process. You’re a strong writer and editor, good at keeping track of deadlines, and comfortable following up with people to keep projects moving. Experience with project management, editorial operations, content production, communications, or coordinating creative contributors is welcome but not required.

What you can expect from us

  • Clear direction. The Brand Development & Marketing Officer and Internal Communications & Public Relations Officer will provide the editorial framework, priorities, and context behind key decisions.
  • Hands-on experience. You’ll manage a multi-contributor editorial workflow and gain experience with content production, committee coordination, and publication.
  • Room to improve the process. You’ll have opportunities to help shape the systems and workflows that make LACW’s marketing and editorial content easier to manage.
  • Experience you can use. You can document appropriate published work, editorial systems, and coordination projects for your portfolio, and CF leadership can provide a professional reference upon completion.
  • Accommodations. If a change in scheduling, communication format, or another aspect of the role would help you participate, tell us, and we’ll work with you.

Los Angeles County is home to many communities, and the stories we tell are stronger when the people helping shape them reflect that range. If you’re a person of color, disabled, LGBTQ+, or part of another community underrepresented in nonprofit editorial and communications work, we’d especially like to hear from you.

Time and terms

  • Time. About 10 hours a week for approximately six months, with flexible scheduling.
  • Location. Most work is remote and async, with a weekly 45–60 minute check-in with the Brand Development & Marketing Officer.
  • LA Climate Week. During April 2–12, 2027, additional availability will be helpful as the pace of content and publishing increases. We’ll plan for that period together in advance.

This is an unpaid volunteer role reporting to the Brand Development & Marketing Officer and Internal Communications & Public Relations Officer. You give your time freely, with no expectation of pay now or in the future. It is not employment and not a pathway to a paid position.
