About the Role
You’ll work alongside the Programming & Content Officer, who sets the program-wide strategy and standards. You’ll lead a committee of about 3–6 volunteers and serve as a resource for organizers—helping them make connections, strengthen their programming, find collaborators, and navigate the planning process.
LA Climate Week’s eight themes are:
- Climate Resilience & Public Health
- Environmental Justice & Equity
- Energy, Industry & the Built Environment
- Food & Agriculture
- Biodiversity & Ecosystems
- Arts, Culture & Media
- Policy, Governance & Finance
- Sustainable Living & Community Action
Ways you might contribute
You and the Programming & Content Officer will decide together where your time and your committee’s time can be most useful.
- Lead your committee. Help recruit and onboard 3–6 volunteers, facilitate meetings, divide organizer relationships across the team, and keep everyone connected and moving forward.
- Support organizers. Be a resource for organizers within your theme and help with questions, connections, collaborations, and more complex planning needs.
- Build the program. Notice gaps in programming, help recruit organizers where needed, and connect people working on complementary ideas.
- Connect across themes. Work with other Theme Leads when an idea, organizer, or opportunity crosses theme areas.
- Track impact. Help organizers complete post-event surveys and share useful theme-level results, needs, and insights with the Programming & Content Officer.
- Spread the word. Occasionally help with partner outreach, marketing copy, or representing your theme when useful.
You might enjoy this if
You care about your theme and enjoy bringing people together around a shared goal. You’re comfortable leading a small team, facilitating conversations, keeping multiple relationships organized, and stepping in when someone needs help. Experience with events, climate work, nonprofits, community organizing, or volunteer leadership is welcome but not required.
What you can expect from us
- Clear direction. The Programming & Content Officer will provide program-wide standards, resources, context, and support.
- Meaningful leadership experience. You’ll get hands-on experience leading a committee and helping shape one of LA Climate Week’s eight program areas.
- Connections. You’ll work with event organizers, community organizations, climate leaders, and other Theme Leads across Los Angeles.
- Experience you can use. You’ll build experience in community engagement, event curation, partnerships, volunteer leadership, and impact reporting, with a professional reference from CF leadership upon completion.
- Accommodations. If a change in scheduling, communication format, or another aspect of the role would help you participate, tell us and we’ll work with you.
Los Angeles County is home to many communities, and LA Climate Week is stronger when the people helping shape it reflect that range. If you’re a person of color, disabled, LGBTQ+, or part of another community underrepresented in climate and nonprofit leadership, we’d especially like to hear from you.
Time and terms
- Time. About 6–8 hours a week during the roughly 10-week planning period, with flexibility based on your theme.
- Term. One planning cycle through LA Climate Week 2027, with the option to return for future cycles by mutual agreement.
- Location. Most planning work can happen remotely, with some in-person availability during LA Climate Week.
- LA Climate Week. Additional availability will be helpful during the event itself for organizer and programming support. We’ll plan for that period together in advance.
This is an unpaid volunteer leadership role reporting to the Programming & Content Officer. You give your time freely, with no expectation of pay now or in the future. It is not employment and not a pathway to a paid position.
