Healthy soil is one of LA’s most underrated climate solutions. It helps cool neighborhoods, holds water during drought, supports native biodiversity, and builds landscapes that are more fire-resilient over time. When we remove invasives and support native plants, we’re not just “beautifying”—we’re strengthening the ecosystem’s ability to recover, thrive, and protect our communities.
Sunland-Tujunga Forward has a vision to breathe new life into Sunland-Tujunga through collaborative action that centers equity, inclusion, and transformative relationships, inspired by the needs of our environment and all its diverse inhabitants.
We’ll be working directly with the land to support a healthier, more resilient canyon ecosystem whilst also honoring the cultural history of this place as part of the ancestral homelands of the Tongva people.
Tasks will include:
Removing invasive plants
Clearing debris to restore healthy land and habitat
General land maintenance to support long-term restoration work
Time/shift commitment: 8.30 AM – 11.30 AM
Physical demands: Physical labour, some lifting, and the ability to be in the sun for several hours.
Dress code: We recommend that volunteers wear outdoor/garden-appropriate clothing, including sunglasses and long sleeves.
